Rain, sleepovers, and barbques

This weekend was fun! We went to the pool and swam on Thursday night and ran into Avery's friend Lilly. Her older sister was having a big birthday sleepover so we invited Lilly to come sleepover at our house. She and Avery were thrilled and they felt like such big girls. They were so good.

Friday we saw the first rain in Qatar. You could hardly call it rain since it was so light that the drops were evaporating quicker than more were coming down. That is about as much as they get here though. It only lasted about 5 minutes.

We had Ken and Esther (George and Millie's parents) over for grilling hamburgers on Friday night. Natasha and Bobby C. (Some of the Crom peeps) came, too. It was fun and we were surprised at how well our neighbor Ken can play the guitar and sing!

Bobby headed over to the liqueur distribution center on Saturday and they have a pork section. He brought home bacon and salami (Chase's favorite). Yum! We have been really struggling with what to pack the kids for lunch because the school is a nut free school. They can't even bring in granola bars because of "traces of nuts". So much for peanut butter and jelly every day. I need some good nut free ideas other than turkey for Avery because she won't eat deli meat at all.

Chase starts soccer this week and is very excited.

  1. Wondered when Bobby would Doris first BBQ!
Fun for all, Avery a big girl having her first sleepover.
Is Chase's soccer like he does here?
On Avery, yogurt, cheese sticks for protein?
Maybe her teacher could give ideas what other children bring.
So enjoy the pix and notes

  2. Loved seeing Bobby grilling. . . looks like you guys have settled right in!! The scenery is absolutely gorgeous Kelley!! The rock formations make it look like you're on the moon. :) Nice you got to "beach it" a bit. . . such a great experience for the kids to see such a different landscape and culture. Sorry about Chase's bad bullying experience. . . seems so bizarre given that they had been buddies--you should be proud that he kept his cool and isn't fazed by it. At least the school seems responsive, which is good. :) Keep posting updates and pics!

  3. Ok we are in trouble now! If I tell Lizzie that Avery has had a sleepover, she may never let me live this down!
