Pashminas, Falcons, and Cheap Barbie Dolls

Tracy and I went to the Souq Waqif for a little breakfast and to spend some time with the local culture. We began our journey in a cafe for the best latte Tracy has ever tasted.  The souq is full of local Qataris so Tracy was able to see lots of men and women in their national dress here.

Tracy thought the pet section was CRAZY! Which it is. There are literally thousands of birds in cages everywhere! All types of birds including exotic ones and common pet ones and tons of ones I have never seen before. This time there were also hundreds of baby bunnies. We were questioning what they do with all the bunnies when/if they aren't sold since we didn't see any grown rabbits for sale. Hmmmm. Tracy didn't remember me posting about the dyed chicks so here is a picture of a few of them. You can buy a chick in lime green, purple, orange, bright yellow, light blue, hot pink. So weird!

Beautiful bird

I now know just which falcon store to go in to hold a falcon.  I am still amazed that there are at least 20 different stores selling falcons here (each store having anywhere from 4-20 falcons in it).  Is there really that big of a market for falcons here?  They cost 10,000 to 30,000 QR!

I always think it is cool to come here because it is a maze of twisting alleyways and I find new things each time.  This time we also found the spice section which was really neat!

And, of coarse, a trip to the souq isn't complete without a stop at the camel parking lot!  Literally to the side of the parking lot is where these camels are kept.  They are ridden each morning and look very well cared for, but it is too funny that this is where they live.
