Falcon Souq

Today I went to the Falcon Souq.  Falconry is a big hobby/pastime of local Qatari men and they have an entire block of the souq dedicated to shops selling all kinds of falconry items.

The most amazing part is the sheer quantity of falcons for sale!  Shop after shop is filled with these beautiful birds that are priced for 10,000 ryals and up.  That is equivalent to 3600 US dollars.   Some of them almost look stuffed, they are all very alive.

The falcons are fed raw chicken and we had the pleasure of seeing them be fed in one of the shops.

This one is my favorite -- it is like he is looking at me saying "don't you dare think you are getting any chicken"

You will notice some of them are hooded and some are not.  I have no idea how they decide which ones need to be hooded.
