Traditional Arabic Dinner

Last night we went to dinner at a traditional arabic restaurant in the Souq Waqif.  It was decorated really cool and felt like we were nestled in our own little tent!  The traditional way of eating at these restaurants is ordering several appetizers (hummus, salad, arabic bread, babaganoosh) and then a couple of entrees to share (lamb chops, "mixed grill" -- which is chicken and beef kabobs basically).  It was pretty good and fun.  Afterwards, we went to Haagan Daas for yummy ice cream.

Here are a couple of pics from the back of both male and female Qatari's.  The men are wearing white and the women black.   I think it is illegal to photograph them without permission so this is the best I could do to show you for now.  One super funny thing is that the Qataris really like to drive white Toyota Land Cruisers with elaborate pin striping on the sides.  No Joke that every 3-4 cars is one of these.  Check out the pic of 5 in a row (not all of them white in this case) in one parking lot!!!  Out of 15 cars in one area of the lot, 8 were Land Cruisers.

Earlier in the day, mom and I went power walking along the Corniche (a road that runs along the water) but only made it 30 minutes because it was 110 degrees and felt like trying to exercise in a sauna.  :)  We took some fun pictures along the way though.  The buildings in the photos are some of the cool architecture in the area we are living in called West Bay.
